Application procedures

Completed applications for the 2009-2011 Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowships in Humanities and the Arts must be received by no later than Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Application materials must include:

  • a curriculum vitae, with educational degrees, teaching experience, and publications. For applicants in studio art, music, or theater performance, portfolios, audio and/or video recordings and other forms of relevant documentation are welcome (electronic portfolios are preferred). Artistic exhibition, public performance, or production involving undergraduate students may substitute for teaching, at the discretion of the program director.
  • a graduate transcript; or a dossier that includes a graduate transcript and may include general letters of recommendation
  • two letters of recommendation that should comment on the strength and character of the candidate's commitment to an academic vocation and suitability for the Lilly Fellows Program
  • An essay or personal statement of not more than 1,000 words that discusses the sources of the candidate's interest in this fellowship program

Final selection of the Lilly Fellows is made by a Valparaiso University faculty committee that includes the Program Director.

The Lilly Fellows Postdoctoral Fellowship is a two-year residential fellowship.

Finalists will be invited to Valparaiso University for on-campus interviews on February 6, 7, and 8, 2009. Three postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded.

All application materials should be directed to The Selection Committee. It is strongly preferred that documents are sent in one complete package but may be sent separately if absolutely necessary. Facsimiles are acceptable as long as the original is mailed as well.
